how steady works

The honest version.

Who's behind it

Steady is built by a small team based in the US. The founder reads every escalation himself in the first 100 families. Real human coaches — clinicians with PhDs, PsyDs, LMFTs, or LCSWs — sit behind the AI for anything that escalates beyond a chat.

What the AI does, and doesn't

Steady the AI is a parent coach you can text. It draws on Lisa Damour, Becky Kennedy, Jonathan Haidt, and the research literature on adolescent development. It cites where its answers come from.

Steady is not a therapist, and it doesn't pretend to be. It doesn't diagnose. It doesn't replace clinical care. If something looks like an acute safety risk — self-harm, suicidal language, abuse, severe substance use, severe eating issues — Steady stops, flags a human coach to follow up within hours, and surfaces 988 and 741741 immediately.

What happens in a crisis

Every parent message runs through a safety classifier before the main model sees it. If it flags, the AI never authors the response — a hardcoded message goes out instead, an escalation row is logged, and the founder gets paged. A coach reaches out within hours. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and the 741741 Crisis Text Line are visible on every chat screen, not hidden behind a tap.

What we keep and what we don't

We keep your conversations so Steady can remember your family across sessions — the kid's name and age, the things you've already tried, what's worked. That memory is the entire product.

We don't train models on your conversations. We don't sell data. We don't show ads. There is no third-party tracker on this site beyond what Cloudflare needs to keep it up.

You can export everything we have on you in one click from settings. You can delete everything in one click too.
